Common Factoring
Common factoring is the opposite of expanding, but you are adding brackets
There are some steps to common factor:
For example: 10x+5
Step 1: Find the greatest common factor( a number that both numbers can be divided by)
GCF: 10
Step 2: Write the solution with the brackets, meaning place the GCF in front of the brackets and be sure to divide both of the numbers by the GCF.
= 10(x+1)
Examples:
1) 12x+6x 2) 50x+5x2
= 3x(4+2) = 5x(10+x)
(If you were to expand)
= 12x+6x
3) 5x3+7y+2z
- NOT POSSIBLE
Now lets try:
1) 8x+4z 2) 2xz+ 4x+6x 3) 100x+50x+10
4) 260x+10x+2x 5) 15x+16x+18x
